NEW SCHOOL HOURS

As of Term 3 2019, we now have new school hours:

School hours are now 8.50am – 2.30pm

Tena Koutou, Welcome to our Huntly Primary School Website

Our beautiful school is nestled in mature trees on the edge of Lake Hakanoa. We have a growing role and currently have 9 classrooms of energetic and happy students. The Technology block is on site and local schools come to experience and learn the soft and hard technology of Cooking, Sewing, Woodwork and Robotics.

We have a specialised Te Reo Maaori teacher who works within our classes and supports a keen Kapa Haka group.  We have dedicated teachers who strive to plan exciting programmes and engage their students. We have a supportive Board of Trustees who are progressive thinkers and keen to get technology to the forefront in our efforts to prepare our 21st Century learners.  We have just embarked on the Ministry initiative of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) which is well supported by our parent community and exciting for us.

You are welcome to pop in and meet us all.

Teacher Inspires Past Student

What a wonderful job we do as teachers when we inspire those we teach to reach for the stars.  We have had the pleasure of a past pupil of Huntly Primary School who recently made contact to inform us that her Year 4 teacher had inspired her to study Astronomy.

Rajika Kuruwita  was a student in 2000 at Huntly Primary School.  She was inspired by a unit on the Solar System to take her interest further.

Rajika has recently completed her Ph.D. in Astronomy last year and has recently attended her graduation ceremony in ANU (Australian National University), Canberra.

We are immensly proud of her achievement and are so happy to have played a small part.

You can read more about Rajika’s time studying here : Rajika’s Story

Welcome Whaea Peta-Maree

At Huntly Primary school we have had the pleasure of welcoming our new principal;  Peta-Maree Parsonage. The students made sure she was warmly welcomed with a wonderful powhiri. They sang with pride and ensured that our new principal felt part of her new school community. It was lovely to see her visit the classes and make herself known to all the students. We are looking forward to this wonderful new journey together.
