Tēnā koutou and Nau mai, haere mai to Manaaki Whanau!
Our whanau whare consists of a bunch of amazing year 5 and 6 students who are all eager ākonga ready to take their learning in their own hands through exploration. We strongly believe in keeping calm through the acronym of T.H.I.N.K.:
T = Is it True?
H = Is it Helpful?
I = Is it Inspiring?
N = Is it Needed?
K = Is it Kind?
This term we have ventured on a collaborative learning journey in maths called DMIC which has proven to be both exciting and rewarding. It involves real life relatable problem solving with learner agency at the centre.
In writing we have explored further the WTE (Write that Essay) program which focuses on advancing writing skill development in a gradual manner at every year level. We have had some great sentence-masters emerge from here.
Digital curriculum also plays a significant role in Manaaki Whanau and we endeavour to explore this even further throughout this year. So far, we have been able to publish some of our writing on Chromebooks, advance our maths and reading through accredited websites as well as embark on learning how to create a Google slideshow with some help from our senior digital class learners.
I myself am very excited for the rest of 2020 and following each of my students learning journey!
