Working initially with a withdrawl group of 12 senior students, The Beacon News Crew, we have also discovered that an initiative such as this has further provided authentic contexts for students to

  • Learn and develop journalism skills
  • Think creatively and problem solve
  • Improve their ability to write in a transactional genre
  • Manage and organise their time and resources
  • Demonstrate leadership and awhina within their own classrooms
  • Apply a wide range of Key Competencies across their learning
